Commissions can begin with an existing design idea, a particular room or function, or a completely new idea.
You do not need drawings or a finished design to inquire.
How the Commission Process Works
Step 1: Inquire
Submit the inquiry form down below. I will personally review your inquiry and begin a conversation with you. An inquiry can begin with as much or as little information as you’re ready to share.
Step 2: Design
I will work with you directly to develop the design, timeline, and pricing around your space, needs, and preferences. Sketches and drawings can be provided as needed. Once we are aligned on the direction of the piece, I will provide a final quote and we can move forward with the deposit.
Step 3: Deposit
A 50% deposit is typically required before construction begins. For larger commissions, a smaller deposit percentage or a staged payment structure may be arranged.
Step 4: Construction
This is where your piece comes to life. I will keep you updated throughout the build and send progress photos so you can follow the process as your commission takes shape.
Step 5: Completion & Delivery
Once the piece is complete, I will send finished photographs for your approval. Final payment is required before shipping or delivery. We will also confirm the delivery method, whether that means partially disassembled shipping to reduce cost, freight, or coordinated white-glove delivery.
Step 6: After Delivery
I will follow up after delivery to make sure your piece arrived safely and provide any care and maintenance guidance needed to help it age beautifully.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can the dimensions be customized?
Yes. Every commission can be tailored to your space and intended use. Length, width, height, proportions, shelving, storage, and other functional details can all be adjusted as needed.
Can I choose the wood species and materials?
Yes. I offer a range of domestic hardwoods and can also source more unusual or exotic species when appropriate. Material selection can be tailored around the look, function, and budget of the project.
Will I work directly with you?
Yes. I personally handle the design, communication, construction, and coordination of each commission, so you will work directly with the person building your piece throughout the process.
Do you ship nationwide?
Yes. Commissions can be shipped throughout the United States. Depending on the size and complexity of the piece, shipping may be arranged through standard freight, partially disassembled shipping, or white-glove delivery.
How long does a custom commission usually take?
Most commissions take approximately 6–12 weeks to complete, although larger or more complex pieces may require additional time. A more specific timeline will be discussed before construction begins.
Am I committing to anything by submitting an inquiry?
No. Submitting an inquiry simply starts the conversation. There is no obligation to move forward until we have discussed the project, design, pricing, timeline, and payment structure and you decide that you would like to proceed.
